Steamy (365.2.24)

helllooooo gorgeous.

I spend a lot of time in the studio fusing interfacing to fabric. At times I wish I had one of those big pant steamers like drycleaners have. That’d probably work well for interfacing, eh? Too bad they probably also cost $4k.

Also, it’s really hard to capture steam on camera without much light. The steam always swirls up from under the ironing board in these cool twisty columns but I can’t catch that.

I am allergic to ironing. Makes me break out with a wicked case of tourettes. Wouldn't mind a steamer but I suspect it would collect dust.

There is nothing I loathe more than ironing clothes. Shudder. We're twinsies!

I rarely use interfacing for anything, but I freaking HAAAAATTTTTTEEEEEE it when I have to do it. Someone commissioned me to make them a t-shirt quilt once and I had to use fusible interfacing on the shirts and it was such a nightmare. I can't ever get it to stick effectively!

Having fused over 75 yards of the stuff in the last few months, the key is a medium heat and a medium amount of steam under a muslin press cloth. Set the iron down and don't wiggle it, not even a little bit (heh.) I generally leave it under the iron for twice the time recommended on the label. You also have to find the flattest spot on your ironing board. It's an art.

Ah. That's probably my problem. Since I could never get it to stick well, I assumed it was because the iron wasn't hot enough, so I turned it on as high as it went! I also didn't use a pressing cloth. Will give that a try next time I have to work with it! Thanks!

I've tried capturing steam from the iron and frost from my breath in a photo. Haven't been successful.

I hate ironing. So funny that this pic showed up right next to Chawne's ironing pic! I will not be copying this theme - I'm pretty sure if I own an iron, it's never made it out of its box.

ever fused your interfacing backwards so that it stuck to your iron? yeah, that's nice.

That's why the press cloth is so important. It's also why I'm on my second press cloth.

I don't mind ironing clothes. I do it every morning. My mom used to iron big piles at once, instead of on an "as needed" basis. This was my favorite chore, because I could do it and watch tv at the same time.

I've been fusing all wrong, too! That sounds incredibly sucky.

I bought an issue of Crochet Today and was reading it today and saw a blurb about you and your cool pouches on page 7! Hooray!

After making my nephew's crayon roll I have a newfound respect for interfacing. I want to make more things that require it.

I just got a new iron today, and it is really making me looking forward to doing some sewing this weekend! The steam looks lovely.
