there and back

Laguna_1Laguna_caro_1Whew! That was a quick trip. We flew into Orange County on Saturday afternoon and zipped back to Texas yesterday. It's funny - with all the flying we do I have yet to see another person knitting in the airport or on a plane. Seems kinda weird.

Sunday was devoted to the Superbowl and an evening of Superbowl highlights. Truthfully, everyone else watched the Superbowl, I watched the ads and took the opportunity to finish up Mariah's back. Monday we zipped out to Laguna Beach and sat in the sun for a bit. I enjoyed the smell of the ocean - you just don't get that here in Austin. Funny that.

Knitting_bucketKnitting_bucket_pocketThis morning while recovering from the mediocre flight home (turbulence. bleah.) I slowly tackled a sewing project that I've had on my list. A few weeks ago iHanna made a cute little denim knitting basket that I decided could work for me too. Never being one to throw away denim (or any fabric as you know) I remembered that I had the top of an old pair of jeans in the stash. I turned the jeans inside out so I could use the pockets on the inside then used some of my lime green pillow fabric for the outer piece. I might add a line of top stitching around the edge to give it a more finished look but overall I'm pretty happy with it. It took a little bit to work out what size to cut the bottom circle but I'm sure my grade 8 math teacher would be happy to know that *something* stuck.

I just LOVE love love the basket! Its enough to make me wish I could manage to sew one for myself - and maybe I can. I'll give it a try when life slows down again. Fun! Pockets inside is definitely brilliant!!

I saw that basket on iHanna's site (she has great recycling stuff!) and just loved it. Yours looks great! Such a creative idea.

Your trip photos are wonderful! I have yet to see some knitters in the airport or the train yet either--although people always tell me that they saw some after their recent trips... maybe one day!

Take care, C!

Your new basket is awesome! I must learn how to sew.

Um, that is the coolest knitting basket I have ever seen! I love it so much that I'm rushing home after work today to see what sort of material I have in the closet. Any other tips? Did you line it with anything? Did I mention that I failed geometry the first time?

i recently subscribed to your blog and enjoy it very much. your bucket inspired me to try one. of your inspiration, yours, and my knock-off, yours is still my favorite. thanks for the great idea.

wOW! I might copy cat you right back! :-)
