senorita Indy

Sm_indy_birthday Sm_can_haz_cupcake I realize this post will probably push me another step closer to Crazy Cat Lady status, but I have no knitting to show, nothing for Fiberlicious Friday, no Eye Candy Friday pics, nothing. I've been busy in the sewing room, but there's no progress documented. Plus I'm supposed to be packing for a girls weekend of knitting (and drinking) so rather than chase down some WIP pictures, I'm going to distract you with pictures of the cat.

Little Miss Indy turns 10 this week and is now (according to the vet) a senior cat. She started her life as a Pemberton barn kitten who was returned to the feed store three times before I adopted her. Since then she has lived in 9 houses in 4 cities in 2 different countries. She wasn't fond of the plane ride to Austin, but can you blame her? Anyway, Happy Birthday you crazy Triscuit-loving kitteh.

*And because I know someone will say something about the chocolate, no, she didn't eat the cupcake, yes I know that chocolate is bad for pets. (Do you really think I would share a cupcake?)  I put kitty treats behind it to suck her into the shot, but she wouldn't eat them off the plate. Her human food consumption was limited to one blue sprinkle.

choices

Brown_coin_quilt_2 Brown_coin_backing_choicesSummer in Austin is much more conducive to quilting than knitting. The thought of sitting under a hot task lamp with 3 feet of silk in my lap with the AC cranked is not very appealing. Consequently Hanami is hibernating for a few days while I resurrect an old quilting WIP.

The brown coin quilt I started last September has been hanging on the back of my studio door for 10 months now. This week I took it down, gave it a good press and finally sewed on the remaining border strips. The only decision I have left to make is which fabric to use for the backing. The red is a perfect colour match with the top, but I'm not jazzed about the busyness of the white flower repeats. The yellow-green doesn't necessarily coordinate as well colour-wise, but it's a more sophisticated print. I'm leaning towards the green, but I can't make up my mind.

pouchy

Pouch_mania Pouch_stack When I add a new CD to the collection, I'll often listen to it over and over until I'm almost sick of it. (Currently Tegan and Sara, So Jealous.) 3, 4, 7 repetitions a day and I don't even blink an eye. It's one of those OCD quirks that many of us have, so I don't think it's particularly weird, just mildly annoying to those around us who aren't as keen on the object of obsession.

This same tendency has crossed over into my sewing since I've returned home. I have a million projects in the queue but I can't stop making zippered pouches. I'm sure the impending "I don't want to LOOK at another pouch" will come, but I'm not there yet. They're all unlined, not big enough to be purses or wristlets or anything, just random pouches for random stuff. I think they'll work well as thank you gifts but I’m so deep in the obsession that I can’t tell anymore.

fiberlicious! friday at home

Sm_bowl_indigo_moon Before I unpacked, before I took a shower, before I even drank my coffee, I took pictures of yarn. I'm not sure what that says about me, but I'm hoping that it only means I missed my sewing room while I was away. (The alternative is that I might be crazy and I don't have time to deal with that.)

This bowl of Indigo Moon fingering weight was my only stash acquisition during my travels. I found it at Three Bags Full in Vancouver while on the hunt for some Sweet Georgia yarns that were long gone. The plan as it stands right now is that these two blue skeins will be socks for the FIL, but I remember what happened last time I tried that. We'll see, we'll see.

In the meantime, happy Fiberlicious! Friday!

celebrating a firecracker weddin'

Austin_puttputt Married Cutting_the_cake Not only is today Independence Day in the US, but it's also our third anniversary. In 2004 we said our vows on the 18th hole of course #2 at Austin Putt-Putt. Beer, tamales, good friends and plenty of mini-golf. We're celebrating in Canada this year so we won't have any fireworks, but it's a holiday for the two of us just the same.

Happy Anniversary Husband!

my head is spinning

696393613_85e69de08b Max_canada_day Wedding number 4 on the Great Wedding Tour of Aught Seven was perfect. Beautiful weather, beautiful location, beautiful bride (my cousin) in a dress handmade by her mother.

And although it was a different occasion and I'm totally late but don't want to miss it, Happy Canada Day!
