eye candy friday, macromay edition

I've been levelled by the flu this week. Ugh. I haven't been outside in days so all my Macro May photos have been taken in my sewing room.

I have been knitting, but it has taken a backseat while I try and recover. Writing patterns and Dayquil really don't go well together. This Malabrigo is now a half a cowl though and it's gorgeous.

eye candy friday, cats in bloom edition

I love watching the relationship continue to develop between Indy and Teek. She had never really spent much time living with other cats, so it's all sort of new to her. Teek, well, he's still new really, isn't he. He'll tentatively approach, leaning in close to lick her head. I'm always very quiet hoping that she'll let him snuggle in a little. Closer, closer, lick, lick and then CHOMP! He'll bite a little orange ear. He's definitely a teenage boy now.

close?

Good thing she doesn't let him get away with anything.

too close

It's reflected in Teek's actions around the house but outside Spring has definitely hit the Northeast.

eye candy friday, all around boston edition

Since Mum has been here, we've really been trying to hit all the good bits.

The view of the North End from a super fantastic semi-secret free tourist spot. That white steeple you see is the "One if by land, two if by sea" tower at the Old North Church with the Bunker Hill Monument in the background:

eye candy friday, out and about edition

I went downtown to get our taxes finished up and stepped across the street for some pictures on the Common. Spring is juuuuuust starting to hit Boston.

greeeeeeeen!

Along with the Tangled Yoke, there's another knit that's been sitting in my queue. I'd been hesitant to blog about it because this project has already broken the interweb once, but now that the pattern is for sale I won't be contributing to the mania.

The Hello Yarn Fiddlehead Mittens Kit.

The Fiddlehead kit

I almost don't want to take the skeins out of their perfect little cardboard home. Gorgeous! I haven't cast on yet, but it's definitely in the works for this week. The Kit with the yarn is a little tricky to get your hands on, but Adrian has a ton of suggested yarn substitutions. The best part? If you don't want to spring for the kit, you can buy the pattern PDF through Ravelry. The genius bit is it stays in your Rav library so you never have to worry about losing the file. Brilliant, eh?

it's totally worth the wait.

eye candy friday, absentee posting edition

Sm_cactus_flower Sm_mimosa_flower Sm_magnolia Thank you Typepad for the auto-posting feature. Because of you I don't have to take any time away from my precious nickel slots to keep on a regular blog schedule. I love a new post as much as the next gal, but I ROCK the nickel slots.

I took my camera along on my morning walk in Austin the other day and while I didn't get pictures of the crazy cat house, the peacocks or the metal sculpture house, I did manage these nice prickly pear, mimosa and magnolia blooms.

eye candy friday, finished bathroom edition

Sm_loo_afterSm_tub_faucetSm_high_cabinetSm_right_sideSm_sink_and_hooksSm_curved_shower_rod Our contractor estimated that the bathroom remodel would take 1-2 weeks. Having done this sort of thing before, I thought I knew better and planned for an extra week or so beyond the original number. Even with all that planning? We were five weeks start to finish with the hired guns and a week or two for me to find and install the doors, mirror and shelves.

We went 29 days without any means to shower or have a dunk in the tub so every second or third day we would go to Amy or Meg's place. Oh sure, there were plenty of bird baths (or Navy showers as my mum calls them) but without good pals, we would have been REALLY stinky. The absolute worst was the week of the tiling. We went 6 days and nights without a toilet in the house. We'd drive up to the grocery store during the day, pee at the neighbours house before bed and used Glaceau water bottles at night. (Hurray wide mouth bottles!) Needless to say, I spent most of that week very dehydrated so I wouldn't have to use the facilities.

The last step to getting it all finished was the tub. It's a big ol' cast iron behemoth original to the house and it seemed a shame to just toss it because it was a little dinged up. We wouldn't have been able to get it out the door anyway, so we left it in place and had it re-enameled. Ta Da! Shiny and new!

All in all, a successfully rehabilitated loo. Ain't it pretty?

(You'll find the before pictures here.)

eye candy friday, lolcat edition

Sm_dfa_indystyleIndy_invisible_ladder_text Sm_indy_session We spent a few hours doing some spring cleaning up in the backyard yesterday afternoon. Because they still don't get along, we kept Bicoe inside so Indy could have quality hangin' out time. My ol' girl can still jump, eh? Not bad for a 11 year old cat. (And yep, I submitted the invisible ladder to ICHC. We'll see!)

Get_off_my_deskjpg Indy_toesjpg As Claudia says, when you see a cat picture, it means there's not much progress.
